Letter to ParentsDear Parents,
Today, we proudly introduce you to ACT, Avoid Cancer Today. This website acts as a youth awareness program that we hope will educate your daughters and provide them with tools that promote healthy lifestyles. Technology has empowered our youth to be able to access information and each other faster and more effectively than ever before. This sophisticated generation of multitaskers chat online, play games, do homework and make plans for the weekend all while listening to their iPods. Due to this technology-savvy generation, we feel the best way to communicate with our youth is through this website. We hope it will become a great source of information and help your daughters understand the severity of breast cancer.
According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime. 270,000 will be diagnosed each year and over 40,000 will die each year with this terrible disease . This is not acceptable. We know that if our youth practices the ACT, they can possibly sav This is not acceptable. We know that if our youth practices the ACT, they can possibly save their own lives. The ACT will teach this generation to become aware of how important early lifestyle choices are and that these good choices now will affect their long-term health. Sharing prevention information and personal battles with each other on this website will bring them together for a change, not only for themselves, but also for those they love. The ACT will promote this healthy lifestyle and share as much information as possible to give them choices to care for their mind, body and spirit.
The ACT believes that if young women come together and initiate change, your daughters could become the generation of the cure. With your help, the ACT can help these young women grow into educated adults, properly caring for their bodies and souls by making healthy lifestyle choices. Confidence comes from an educated and self-aware woman, and we hope to deepen their understanding of themselves and others. We will encourage young women to reach out with their guiding strength so that they may touch others with what they have learned.
We hope parents, families, schools and area organizations will understand the importance of this website. We encourage you to send your comments and questions. Working together, we strive to see our youth become the generation of the cure. Please send questions to ACT, PO Box 72905, Louisville, KY 40272. Special thanks to Creative Alliance for their generous contribution, to all those who helped put this website together and to Southwest Breast Cancer Awareness Group for sponsoring our first year.
